Dear Friends and Community,

After 16 years of serving the San Francisco community, the Abandoned Planet bookstore closed its doors. We recognize the significant contribution that this independent bookstore provided to local residents, and we seek to continue using this building as a space for cultural and community development.  Within the span of this year, we hope to transform 518 Valencia into a fully accessible center for popular culture and education and make it available at low cost to organizations, community members and social movements in the Bay Area.  We recognize the need for more spaces committed to supporting local cultural expression and progressive voices seeking a distinct vision for the Bay Area.

The space is available for events and classes. If you are interested in the 518 Valencia Project, please e-mail info(at)518valencia(dot)org.

Thank you,

The Kendra Alexander Foundation

REBUILDING THE CENTER

The work was completed in June 2011 and has been open for community events since July! We started construction in January 2011. We worked with Asian Neighborhood Design to develop plans for the rebuild, after some necessary cleanup and demolition of the former space.

NEWS ABOUT 518!

Read a nice piece in Curbed SF about the new space!

And Mission Local, too.

Stay tuned!
